– You cannot control your behavior or understand when you are provoking pain onto others. The pain you provoke doesn’t hurt you, since you are insensitive. This means that you’ll tend to be absurd and cruel, without understanding what you are doing.

– You cannot feel real pleasure since your sensitivity is not working. You cannot evaluate the simple pleasures of existence. Everything seems to be empty in your life. You tend to live you life always being dissatisfied, and constantly looking for what is missing.

– You are indifferent to everything. You simply accept bad relationships and suffocating situations without caring about examining what is happening to you, or about changing what is upsetting you.

Your patients are in some type of crisis

You will receive patients from law enforcement, from mental health crisis response teams, from families at the end of their patience and the end of their rope, or even from the patient who realizes that “something is just not right”. Your patients are all in a severe crisis and when in this state, they are not at all predictable. You need to be ready for anything.

Your patients don’t act like most people

Your patients talk to people not there, respond to things you cannot hear; they may be extremely afraid and in panic, they may be unkempt and smelly. They may have bugs on them and their belongings. They may be afraid to eat or drink anything you offer. They can, and sometime do, become agitated to the point of being physically aggressive due to being in a panic. These patients are not going to lie down and be still in a bed.

Psychiatric patients are the most underserved in our health care. They frequent our ER’s because they don’t know what else to do. They do not get much care of their physical bodies because they are either unable or are unwilling to get to the doctor on any type of regular basis. These patients are usually very disorganized and don’t have the ability to work within any “system” to get their needs met, so they struggle to just “get by”. The psychiatric nurse can assess physical illness and help the patient get treated correctly. The nurse will help with getting some follow-up care established through the Social Worker.

The psychiatric patient can be anyone. It is the young honor student in his first year of college; it is the prom queen, it is the next door neighbor with the unkempt lawn, it may even be your family member who is not acting quite right. Maintaining Mental Stability – Behavioral Health and Happiness

Charles Darwin discovered that we are basically primates. However, scientific discoveries carried on in the end of the twentieth century prove that the truth about the human nature is more complex than what he had believed.

The biologist and behaviorist Konrad Lorenz and other biologists discovered that we are basically programmed to react in a certain way. All wild animals are programmed to have certain specific reactions to various stimuli from their environment that indicate danger, that help them find food, and many other things. This means that many of the reactions that appear in our behavior are not the result of our own decisions, but the result of the existence of behavioral programs that pre-define our reactions, depending on the various stimuli of our environment that put them into action.

Lorenz related the findings of many biologists to his own findings concerning human and animal behavior. His remarkable research should have enlightened humanity. However, the conclusions he made were not appreciated by our hypocritical world leaders. This is why his discoveries didn’t change the global mindset, even though he was honored with the Noble Prize in 1974.

He discovered that there are so many hard-wired responses in human behavior, that we cannot talk about ‘human freedom’. In other words, if we are already programmed to react like animals in so many ways, we don’t have the freedom to make our own decisions and do what we really want to. We don’t control our behavior as we believe we do.

I related Konrad Lorenz’s discoveries to Carl Jung’s discoveries about the meaning of dreams. Then, I continued Jung’s research through dream interpretation, discovering the wild side of our conscience (anti-conscience) that he could not see. The anti-conscience is our primitive conscience that didn’t evolve like our human side. It is a very violent primate, with the difference that it can think.

The existence of such primitive content in the biggest part of our brain means that we are basically cavemen who didn’t evolve enough yet. This is why so many behavioral programs determine our behavior.

The powerful anti-conscience generates mental illnesses and mental disorders within our human conscience until it manages to destroy it. Then, it completely controls our behavior, leading us to terror and despair.

If we want to maintain our mental stability and behave in a way that will help us find happiness in life, we must eliminate the absurd thoughts generated by our anti-conscience. We must also eliminate the negative behavior imposed by its violent nature.

The unconscious mind that produces our dreams works like a doctor because we need constant protection and guidance. We must follow the unconscious psychotherapy in order to transform the anti-conscience into positive content before it manages to destroy our humanity. Only then will we acquire true behavioral health and mental stability. Thus, only then will we find real peace and happiness in life.

Bad Life Style Behaviors – Health Risks and Premature Early Death

A recent article published in Apr.26 issue of ‘Archives of Internal Medicine’ confirms a result which is not unexpected.

People who had bad life style behaviors showed a great increase of risk of premature early death. Those bad life style components were smoking, excessive alcohol drinking, poor diet, having fruits and veggies less than 3 times daily, and physical exercise less than 2 hours per week.

These people showed that they were three times more likely to die of cardiovascular disease, and four times more likely to die of cancer. They also showed bodily aging appearance, equivalent to being 12 years older than those who did not have a bad life style.

The article again brings home the similar message that we need to have constant and steady good life style day in day out to keep our good health until time is up.

Positive attitude toward life is very important. Carry joy in your heart, peace in your mind and smile on your face all day long. Share these with everyone you meet.

Eat modest amount of food with plenty of fresh veggies and fruits. Try to cut down the portion of meal whenever you can.

Do exercise every day. You may join exercise classes if you can not do it alone. These include traditional yoga, its variations, Pilates, resistance exercise, weight lifting, tread mill, and walking.

Take essential vitamins regularly.

We all need to have a good life style to enjoy our beautiful life while we are here.
